Oct. 9

Dear Friend,

We had a very exciting week in New Hampshire politics! On Monday, Governor Maggie Hassan announced that she will challenge Senator Kelly Ayotte in the election next year. This race is expected to be highly competitive and will play an important role in determining which party has a majority in the U.S. Senate. People across the state were excited to hear this news, and are ready to get to work to make 2016 a great year for New Hampshire Democrats.

Governor Hassan explained why she is running for Senate in an op-ed earlier this week. "I have the extraordinary privilege as governor of traveling across our state and talking to the people and businesses of New Hampshire. As I go from Nashua to Pittsburg, our state’s enormous potential isn’t just something I see – it’s something I feel. Together, we’ve been working to realize that potential every single day, and we’re seeing the progress all across our state. Our unemployment rate is now 3.6 percent, the fourth lowest in the country. Last year, New Hampshire led New England with the biggest growth in personal income. And our economic growth was tied for best in New England, beating the national average. Now, to continue working to realize New Hampshire’s full potential, we need a response from Washington that meets the progress we’re making here at home. And that’s exactly why I am running for the United States Senate."

With an open Governor's seat, we can also expect an exciting race for the corner office. On Thursday, Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern announced that he will run for Governor.

With all the exciting news this week, we know that 2016 has the chance to be a great year for New Hampshire Democrats at every level. Help us ensure that we have the resources to elect as enough Democrats to take back the State House by donating to the Committee to Elect House Democrats today!

Sincerely,

Steve Shurtleff
